Welcome to Family Counseling Services

Family Counseling Services is a licensed, non-profit, non-sectarian agency serving Eastern Long Island. Established in 1971, it is a community-based, United Way agency providing treatment, prevention, education, crisis intervention and supportive services at its main office in Westhampton Beach and its satellite offices in Brookhaven and Shirley. Our clients come from many areas of the East End including the Towns of Southampton, Riverhead, Brookhaven, East Hampton Shelter Island and Southold. Each year, over 6,000 families and individuals benefit from our services.

The agency serves individuals and families in need of professional help in many areas of mental health including:

• Youth and family problems
• Depression, anxiety disorders and adjustment to life transitions
• Substance abuse treatment and prevention
• Substance abuse education in schools and community
• Domestic violence and child abuse
• Treatment and advocacy for families coping with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

All counseling programs have access to psychiatric services such as evaluations and treatment with appropriate medications. These are provided in conjunction with counseling, when deemed necessary.

The Family counseling Services in funded by institutions, foundations, community service organizations, individual donors and special events that supplement funding from the United Way of Long Island and government contracts. The agency is partially funded by the Brookhaven Youth Bureau, New York State Offices of Children and Family Services, Village of Westhampton Beach, Suffolk County Youth Bureau, Southampton Town, Suffolk County Department of Social Services, New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services, the Suffolk County Division of Community Mental Hygiene Services, and the New York State Ofice of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disorders.
